Essential Oils

MyoMassage offers a range of essential oil massages to enhance your experience and results.

Essential oil effects are also complex and subtle due to their complex structure and chemical properties. The mechanism of their action involves integration of essential oils into a biological signal of the receptor cells in the nose when inhaled. The signal is transmitted to limbic and hypothalamus parts of the brain via olfactory bulb. These signals cause brain to release neuro messengers like serotonin, endorphin etc., to link our nervous and other body systems assuring a desired change and to provide a feeling of relief. Serotonin, endorphin and noradrenalin are released from calming oil, euphoric, and stimulating oil respectively to give expected effect on mind and body

Peppermint Oil- The Science

Peppermint oil works in a few profound ways to alleviate tension and alter pain perception

In studies, peppermint oil caused a change in the cell membrane of the cold receptors with consequent reduction in the outflow of calcium ions. This led to increased electrical activity of the cold receptors. The stimulation of the cold receptors may also explain the analgesic (pain relieving ) effects of peppermint oil

Tension type headaches are caused by increased muscle tension around the head and neck, the solution to these headache is to reduce the tension present. Gobel (1995) study showed 10% peppermint oil solution leads to a significant reduction in the surface activity of the temporal (head and jaw) muscle in Nerve conduction tests. Similarly Pan R (2012) found that the active ingredients of peppermint oil cause numerous peripheral and central analgesic effects.

These are few of many studies which support the use of peppermint oil for headache and muscle tension relief. Therefore at MyoMassage we offer a peppermint oil based essential massage to best serve our customers.
